Two Geophysics Ph.D. Students Place Third in SEG Challenge Bowl World Finals


Competition Held at SEG Annual Meeting

Geophysics Ph.D. students, Joan Marie Blanco and Alexandre Cardoso Da SilvaGeophysics Ph.D. students, Joan Marie Blanco and Alexandre Cardoso Da Silva, from the University of Houston’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences placed third in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Challenge Bowl World Finals.

The competition, held October 17 at the SEG Annual Meeting in Dallas, featured 16 student teams from around the world. The Challenge Bowl is a test of students’ knowledge in the geosciences. Students who participated in regional competitions held worldwide met to participate in World Finals. 

The UH team of Blanco and Silva brought home third place. First place winners were from Brigham Young University and second place went to University of Calgary.
