Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Geophysics

Summary: The successful candidate will join the Allied Geophysical Laboratory (AGL) and engage in an exciting range of laboratory and field experimental geophysics. The ideal applicant will have experience with seismic and ultrasonic sensors, data acquisition systems, and surveys (with a Ph.D. in a related field). The position involves designing systems, integrating equipment, and conducting ultrasonic surveys in the Physical Modeling (Robotic) Facility. In addition, research investigations will include the use and development of seismic systems with multicomponent sensors, land streamers, well logging instruments, and VSP sondes. The individual will assist with field testing, exploration programs, and Geophysical Field Schools as well as research research in seismic measurement (microphones, geophones, and accelerometers). Dr. Robert Stewart (rrstewart@uh.edu), Director of the Allied Geophysical Lab, will serve as postdoctoral sponsor to the selected candidate.

Summary: The successful applicant will join a climate research group engaged in the analysis of satellite data, modeling, assimilation, and inverse modeling of CO2 and trace gases. Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a closely related field and be familiar with atmospheric chemistry and transport modeling. They should also have experience in radiative transfer and satellite data analysis. Dr. Xun Jiang (xjiang4@mail.uh.edu) will serve as postdoctoral sponsor to the selected candidate. The appointee will join the Institute for Multidimensional Air Quality Studies (IMAQS). It is expected that the research work will result in significant peer-reviewed publications.

Summary: A new postdoctoral position in Atmospheric Science is available at Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
The successful applicant will join a climate research group engaged in the analysis of satellite data, modeling, assimilation, and inverse modeling of CO2 and trace gases.
Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a closely related field and be familiar with atmospheric chemistry and transport modeling as well as having experience in radiative transfer and satellite data analysis. Dr. Xun Jiang will serve as postdoctoral advisor to the selected candidate. The appointee will be guided by the adviser to ensure that the research work will result in significant results and publications in the peer-reviewed literature.


The appointment is contingent upon evidence of completion of a Ph.D. and can begin as early as Spring 2009. Postdoctoral scholar positions are awarded for a one-year period and may be renewed in one-year renewals for a maximum addition of two years.
